A new video has been launched to promote Stevenage's historic High Street and its businesses.
Stevenage Borough Council commissioned Pearldrop Ltd to create a 'Welcome to the Stevenage Old Town Historic High Street' video, to celebrate and highlight the independent businesses in the town.
The council said the High Street is "one of Hertfordshire’s most attractive and quintessentially British high streets" and provides a "vast range of professional, unique retail and personal care services, an arts and leisure offering and an amazing food and drink experience, as well as superb boutique hotel accommodation".
Cllr Lloyd Briscoe, cabinet member for economy, skills, and transport at Stevenage Borough Council, said: “Consumers shopping habits continue to change and customers are much more discerning.
"Our high streets place a huge demand on our retailers and those who provide services.
"The Historic Stevenage Old Town High Street businesses continue to be challenged and I want to support our businesses to continue to provide new experiences to attract new customers but still tailor services to existing customers.
"We are delighted to support a promotional video which recognises the wide array of products and services on offer in Stevenage Old Town for its residents and visitors to experience.
"I would like to encourage both residents and businesses to continue to support your high street.
"There are a vast number of small businesses who make a huge contribution to the Stevenage economy and wider community by providing employment and a superb location to meet, socialise and be entertained, as well as shop and build relationships.
"Your high street needs you to survive and thrive."
The Federation of Small Businesses report from August 2024 on the "Future of the High Street" highlighted the challenges faced by high streets across the country, due to constant challenging market conditions, which often leave huge gaps and limited offerings.
However, the council said Stevenage Old Town High Street continues to remain vigilant and provides an ever-evolving offer to its loyal customer base, as well as attracting new visitors who are keen to experience and sample what is on offer.
