Did you know that Citizens Advice North Herts (CANH) is a local independent charity which has been supporting the community for over 85 years?
Citizens Advice North Herts is a cornerstone of the community, first established in Hitchin at the outbreak of World War II.
We provide free, impartial advice to those facing financial and personal challenges, offering a guiding hand in times of need and aiming to prevent crises through early intervention.
Our mission is to empower individuals with the confidence and skills to face life's challenges head-on.
Our dedicated Advice Team works tirelessly to support individuals and families, finding ways forward when life takes an unexpected turn—something that can happen to any of us.
Many of those we help are managing well until a major life event changes everything. Issues like debt, housing, employment, and benefits are common reasons why people turn to us for support.
Take Margaret, for example. A pensioner facing financial difficulties, Margaret struggled with mounting service charges despite living in a mortgage-free home.
On top of this, she dealt with chronic health problems, including osteoarthritis and severe back pain, making everyday life increasingly challenging.
Margaret initially applied for Attendance Allowance but was rejected, leaving her frustrated and unsure where to turn.
With our help, she successfully reapplied, receiving the higher rate of Attendance Allowance and a backdated payment.
This additional income has eased her financial burden, providing the stability she needs to manage her health and wellbeing.
What we do is important not just for individuals but for society as a whole.
Solving problems like Margaret's saves taxpayer money, helps people remain in employment, and reduces pressure on local authority and health services.
Our support is just as vital today as it was in 1939, and as demand for our services continues to grow, our fundraising initiative is crucial to ensure we keep meeting the evolving needs of our community.
Your donation will help us continue this vital work. Every contribution will directly enhance our services and expand our capacity to assist more people in North Herts. Donations up to £250 made through the Aviva page will be match-funded, doubling your impact.
For 85 years, we've been quietly working to support and improve the lives of people in our community. By donating during October, your contribution will be doubled, helping us continue our work for years to come. Please consider donating today to support our future.
