Children with special educational needs are holding a sponsored litter pick in Stevenage to raise money for new sensory equipment at their school.

Pupils at Larwood School - a primary school for children with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) difficulties - plan to clean up four parks over four days in November.

All pupils at the school will be involved in this event, with sponsorship raised used to fund new sensory and outdoor play equipment at Larwood.

The four parks set be spruced up are Hampson, Chells, Fairlands and St Nicholas.

As well as sponsorship from individuals, the school is hoping to attract support from local businesses, suggesting £250 to sponsor one park.

In return, businesses will receive a mention in the Comet, as well as coverage on Larwood's website, Facebook page and Parent Mail.

A spokesperson for Larwood said: "The money raised will fund new sensory equipment that can help our pupils to thrive in their learning.

"All of our pupils have SEMH needs - many with ADHD and/or autism diagnosis.

"Your support can help make a positive contribution to our children’s academic achievements and lifetime experiences.

"Use of sensory toys and equipment designed to help improve their studies also helps them access offsite reward trips.

"Our Key Stage 1 playground has seen better days and is in need of regeneration. With your help, we would be able to build a playground to inspire our younger pupils in play and help them build positive friendships through play."
