Work to build a new "flexible working space" is under way in Stevenage Town Square, creating jobs and offices for commuters and townsfolk.
According to Stevenage Borough Council, "the refurbishment will re-purpose an ageing building" with the increase in office space creating over "150 new jobs".
The new build forms part of the £37.5m Stevenage Regeneration Schemes aiming to transform the town centre.
Construction is anticipated to take three to four months to be completed in early 2025.
A Q&A on the Stevenage Better website explained the reason behind the project.
"The project is delivering essential repairs to an asset that is currently in a poor state and has remained largely empty due to the lack of investment," a statement read.
"The overall visual appearance of the property will be improved that will mirror the existing Co-Space entrance, with new windows and a cleaned façade as some of the key deliverables."

In 2021, the council converted another commercial space into an enterprise centre that provided flexible office space for a range of businesses.
The facility, managed by Co-Space, brought over 300 jobs into the town centre. Subsequently, the council is using Towns Fund money, via the Stevenage Development Board, to complete the new works.
When asked if any business had been rehoused due to construction, Stevenage Better revealed that charity MIND was moved and is now operating from the former Customer Service Unit within Daneshill House.
"There is no requirement for the ground floor units to have to close during the building works and any disruption has been kept to a minimum," it added.
