Stevenage fans should expect classy defending, hard work and big tackles from their new man - and not just because that's what manager Alex Revell wants.

Lewis Freestone was signed by League One Boro for a "six-figure fee", the left-sided defender adding to an already stacked line-up at centre-back.

And the 24-year-old hopes to add more qualities in an attempt to push them into the top six and a play-off place.

"I will always bring 100 per cent commitment," he said, "I'll always leave everything out there on the pitch.

"Hopefully I can bring some quality on the ball but you definitely see some big tackles form me as well.

"There's a great project going on here and the manager is really enthusiastic, likes the players to work hard.

"I'm really excited to be part of what is going on here.

"I saw what Stevenage were all about last year, there seems to be a good group of lads who are committed to the cause and really want to do well and push this club on.

"They really want to get in that play-off spot."

And like other new signings, Louis Appere and most recently Dan Kemp, Freestone made mention of the words from the boss as part of the reason the club was sold to him.

He said: "[Revell] was really positive. He talked about the ambitions of the club and his own ambitions and how he can progress me as a player.

"He also talked of what he wants from the team this season and that work starts really soon.

"I just want to play as many games as possible, contribute to the team and help us get into the top six.

"I can't wait to get going. Everyone is the same, you enjoy your downtime and going on holiday but after a couple of weeks, you can't want to get back at it."
