The spoils were shared after Stevenage Ladies fought out a ten-goal thriller with neighbours Blueharts Seconds in East Women’s Division 2 South West.
The home side made the perfect start to Saturday's game, taking the lead inside the first minute with a penalty corner from Lennie McCallum.
Blueharts turned on the pressure and equalised from a well-drilled short corner routine during a strong ten-minute spell. They then took the lead before the break from another short corner.
Stevenage came out fighting after the break and equalised within the first minute of the restart through Katie Tempest, only to then fall behind again.
The home side didn’t give up though, and pulled level through a McCallum short corner, Blueharts then scored a fourth before Tempest notched her second to make it 4-4.
The pattern of the game continued with Blueharts going 5-4 in front, but Stevenage ensured their efforts got some reward as Josie Bygrave scored their fifth goal.
There was an intra-club clash in East Women’s Division 3 South West as goals from Chloe Jones, Claire Weston and Steph Wilson gave Stevenage Seconds a 3-0 victory over the Thirds, but the Fourths went down to a 5-0 defeat at Chiltern in East Women’s Division 5 South West.
It was a complete mis-match for Stevenage men as they crashed to an 11-0 defeat at Bedford Seconds in East Men’s Division Two South West.
Bedford were 4-0 by half time and then pushed on to annihilate their visitors by adding another seven in the second half.
After an initial three goals in the first seven minutes and a fourth in the 12th, Stevenage stopped for the rest of the half. Bedford pushed on though, to add a goal every five minutes more or less.
The victory means Bedford top the table having scored 27 goals and conceded just one in their four games so far.
The Men’s Seconds had a better time of it as they won 4-2 at home to Royston Seconds in East Men’s Division 4 South West.
In what was a great game to watch, Tom Woolley and Harry O’Donnell were both on target twice to secure the win.
An Ian Jackson goal was all Stevenage men’s Thirds had to show from a 5-1 home defeat at the hands of Blueharts Sixths in East Men’s Division 5 South West, while the Fourths were thumped 7-0 at home by MBDA in East Men’s Division 7 South West.
